Benton, Kentucky -- Marshall County High School Shooting

Your school is supposed to be your home away from home.  Sometimes, it can be your escape from home. For Bailey Holt and Preston Cope, school wasn't either of those. Instead, this was where their lives came to an end.

In Western Kentucky, a small close knit community becomes a nightmare as a shooter fires wounding sixteen people and ending the lives of two innocent 15 year olds. Students ran for their lives in hopes of surviving this violent situation. You hear about shootings all the time. You feel sympathetic and wonder how someone could commit such an appalling act. But, you never ever believe that something so horrendous could take place at your school.

Six victims were rushed to the hospital. Among those six individuals, three were shot in the head and were left in critical condition. The fourth student was kept in stable condition. The entire community supported one another in a devastating time like this. The American flag was lowered in support of the two deceased students and the seventeen injured students.

The shooter, revealed to be Matt Bevin, a 15 year old student whose motives remain unclear. He was charged with 12 counts of first degree assault and 2 charges of murder.

Watching the news and reading stories on shootings always makes me feel sick to my stomach. It baffles me how someone could actually kill another soul. Shootings have become more common than ever and it makes me wonder what our world has become. You wake up one day waiting for someday, until someday doesn't exist anymore.
